P4/27 is the colour people pay a fortune for and then spend a fortune maintaining. A medium brown base shot through with honey blonde — not a single flat shade, but two working against each other so the hair catches light and shows depth as it moves.
That dimensional effect is what separates hair that looks expensive from hair that looks dyed. A solid colour, however good, absorbs light evenly and reads flat in photographs. Highlights create contrast, and contrast is what your eye reads as healthy, natural, well-cared-for hair.
What it takes to get this on your own head
A proper highlight or balayage service is several hours in a chair, a three-figure bill, and bleach on your own hair. Then it grows out, and you're back every eight to twelve weeks to keep the roots from giving it away — indefinitely.
This gives you the finished result with none of that. No bleach, no regrowth, no standing appointment.
Body wave, 8 to 18 inches
The wave matters more on a highlighted wig than on a solid one. Movement is what shows the colour off — the browns and blondes shift against each other as the hair moves, which is exactly the effect the highlights exist to create. On dead-straight hair the same colour reads as stripes.
Lengths run short to mid: 8" to 10" sits around the chin for a bob, 12" to 14" falls to the jaw and just below, 16" reaches the collarbone, and 18" sits just past the shoulder. Body wave shrinks a little against the stated measurement, so if you're between two lengths, take the longer one.
Why short suits this colour
Highlights are placed for effect, and on shorter hair the contrast sits closer to your face where it does the most work — brightening the complexion and framing the jaw. It's also the range where a wig is easiest to live with: lighter on the cap, far less tangling at the nape, quicker to wash and dry, and longer-lasting as a result.

Caring for highlighted hair
The blonde sections have been lightened, so they're the part that needs looking after. Use a purple toning shampoo every few washes to stop the honey tones drifting brassy — this is the single thing that keeps a highlighted wig looking new. Otherwise: sulphate-free shampoo, condition through the mid-lengths and ends rather than the roots, air dry on a stand, and detangle from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb. Heat protectant every time, moderate temperatures, and never brush the wave out dry.

Length and shrinkage guide
All our lengths are measured stretched. Textured hair sits shorter than its stated measurement once it is dry:
- Straight — almost no shrinkage. What you order is what you see.
- Body wave — an inch or two shorter.
- Deep wave and water wave — roughly a fifth to a quarter shorter.
- Curly and kinky curly — up to half. A 20 inch curly piece can sit at 10 inches once dry.
If you are between two lengths, take the longer one. Length disappointment is the commonest reason wigs get sent back, and sizing up costs nothing.
Wigs also arrive compressed from packaging and look thinner and shorter than expected. Shake it out and let it hang before judging it.
Choosing your cap
The cap decides how convincing the wig looks and how much skill it takes to put on. Neither end of this list is better — they suit different people.
- 4x4 closure — the simplest to install and the hardest to get wrong. One parting position. The sensible first wig.
- 4x6, 4x7 and 5x5 closure — a wider lace area, so you can move your parting without exposing the cap.
- 13x4 frontal — ear to ear coverage with real parting space. Middle part, deep side sweep, or moved between wears.
- 13x5 and 13x6 frontal — five or six inches of depth, so a deep middle part stays convincing all the way back.
- 360 frontal — lace around the whole perimeter. The only option if you want high ponytails and updos.
- V-part and half wigs — no lace at all. Your own hair is left out to blend, so the parting is genuinely your scalp.
Frontals give the most freedom and take the most practice. Closures are quicker, more forgiving, and often wearable glueless with straps and combs.
Care
A human hair wig has no scalp feeding it oil, so the ends dry out faster than your own hair would. Looking after it is the difference between a wig that lasts a season and one that lasts years.
- Detangle from the ends upward, never from the roots down. On textured hair, do it wet with conditioner in — dry brushing pulls the wave or curl pattern out permanently.
- Wash sparingly with a sulphate-free shampoo, in sections rather than piling it up.
- Condition through the mid-lengths and ends rather than the roots, and use a weekly mask.
- Air dry on a stand. Allow plenty of time at higher densities — a dense wig put away damp is how wigs develop a smell.
- Heat protectant every time, at moderate temperatures. Repeated high heat wears a wig out faster than anything else.
- Refresh between wears with water and a little conditioner in a spray bottle rather than rewashing.
- Handle lace gently at the hairline, and store on a stand so the shape holds.
On coloured hair: reds and blondes fade fastest. Wash in cool water, and use a purple toning shampoo every few washes on blonde and highlighted pieces.
