A hot brush does in one pass what a round brush and a dryer take two hands and ten minutes to manage. Heated ceramic bristles, brushed through a section, and the hair comes out smoothed, lifted and softly curved at the ends — the salon blow-dry finish, without needing a second pair of hands.
Why a brush rather than a wand
Curling wands and tongs give you defined, deliberate curls, and they take practice. A hot brush gives you something different: soft body, movement and a gentle bend, closer to a blow-dry than a curl. It's far more forgiving — there's no clamp to leave a crease, no risk of a kink halfway down a section, and no burnt fingers holding hair against a hot barrel. If you've ever given up on a curling iron because the results looked uneven, this is the tool that fixes that.
Ceramic, and why it matters
Ceramic heats evenly and holds that temperature across the whole surface. Cheaper metal barrels develop hot spots, so some sections scorch while others barely take, and you end up going over the same hair three times. Repeated passes cause far more damage than one correctly heated one.
How to get the best from it
- Start with dry hair. Damp hair plus direct heat is where damage happens.
- Heat protectant, every time, right through the mid-lengths and ends.
- Work in sections roughly the width of the brush head. Smaller sections give more shape, larger ones more speed.
- Brush from the root, rotating the handle as you reach the ends to create the bend.
- Let each section cool in place before you touch it. This is the step everyone skips, and it's the difference between a shape that lasts the day and one that drops in an hour.
Why it's worth buying
- It replaces two tools. Brush and curler in one, so you're not swapping between hands mid-style.
- It's genuinely easier. The lowest-skill route to a blow-dry finish. If wands have defeated you, this won't.
- It's quick. Most people get a full head done in ten to fifteen minutes.
- It works on wigs and extensions too. Human hair takes to it exactly as your own does, and a hot brush is a gentle way to refresh a wig that's gone flat.

Care
Let it cool completely before storing, and never wrap the cable tightly round the barrel while it's warm — that's what kills the flex at the base. Wipe the bristles occasionally with a dry cloth to clear product build-up, which otherwise transfers back onto clean hair. Keep to the lowest temperature that gets the result you want; fine or colour-treated hair needs far less heat than thick hair.

Length and shrinkage guide
All our lengths are measured stretched. Textured hair sits shorter than its stated measurement once it is dry:
- Straight — almost no shrinkage. What you order is what you see.
- Body wave — an inch or two shorter.
- Deep wave and water wave — roughly a fifth to a quarter shorter.
- Curly and kinky curly — up to half. A 20 inch curly piece can sit at 10 inches once dry.
If you are between two lengths, take the longer one. Length disappointment is the commonest reason wigs get sent back, and sizing up costs nothing.
Wigs also arrive compressed from packaging and look thinner and shorter than expected. Shake it out and let it hang before judging it.
Choosing your cap
The cap decides how convincing the wig looks and how much skill it takes to put on. Neither end of this list is better — they suit different people.
- 4x4 closure — the simplest to install and the hardest to get wrong. One parting position. The sensible first wig.
- 4x6, 4x7 and 5x5 closure — a wider lace area, so you can move your parting without exposing the cap.
- 13x4 frontal — ear to ear coverage with real parting space. Middle part, deep side sweep, or moved between wears.
- 13x5 and 13x6 frontal — five or six inches of depth, so a deep middle part stays convincing all the way back.
- 360 frontal — lace around the whole perimeter. The only option if you want high ponytails and updos.
- V-part and half wigs — no lace at all. Your own hair is left out to blend, so the parting is genuinely your scalp.
Frontals give the most freedom and take the most practice. Closures are quicker, more forgiving, and often wearable glueless with straps and combs.
Care
A human hair wig has no scalp feeding it oil, so the ends dry out faster than your own hair would. Looking after it is the difference between a wig that lasts a season and one that lasts years.
- Detangle from the ends upward, never from the roots down. On textured hair, do it wet with conditioner in — dry brushing pulls the wave or curl pattern out permanently.
- Wash sparingly with a sulphate-free shampoo, in sections rather than piling it up.
- Condition through the mid-lengths and ends rather than the roots, and use a weekly mask.
- Air dry on a stand. Allow plenty of time at higher densities — a dense wig put away damp is how wigs develop a smell.
- Heat protectant every time, at moderate temperatures. Repeated high heat wears a wig out faster than anything else.
- Refresh between wears with water and a little conditioner in a spray bottle rather than rewashing.
- Handle lace gently at the hairline, and store on a stand so the shape holds.
On coloured hair: reds and blondes fade fastest. Wash in cool water, and use a purple toning shampoo every few washes on blonde and highlighted pieces.
