Cordless changes what a straightener is for. A plugged-in one lives in the bathroom and gets used once, in the morning, before you leave. A battery-powered one goes in a handbag, a gym bag or a desk drawer, and fixes the frizz that appears at four o'clock.
This is a straightening comb rather than flat plates, which makes it considerably more forgiving than a conventional iron.
Why a comb rather than plates
A flat iron clamps a section between two hot surfaces. Done well, that gives the sleekest possible finish. Done in a hurry, it leaves kinks where you started, dents where you paused, and a poker-straight result that can look flat and lifeless.
Heated teeth work differently. They pass through the hair while separating it, so you're straightening and detangling in the same movement. The finish is smooth and polished rather than glass-flat — closer to a good blow-dry than a salon press. There's nothing to clamp, so no creases, and it's far harder to hold in one place long enough to cause damage.
It also works much better on textured and coily hair, where a comb glides through rather than snagging, and on wigs.
Where cordless actually earns its keep
- Travel. No adaptor, no voltage worry, no hunting for a socket in a hotel bathroom.
- Touch-ups. The frizz that appears after a commute or a humid afternoon, fixed in two minutes wherever you are.

Use it on your wigs too
A heated comb is one of the gentlest ways to smooth a human hair wig, because there's no clamping pressure. Work on a stand with the wig dry, use a protectant, keep the heat moderate, and move steadily rather than pausing. It's particularly good for smoothing the ends of a straight wig that's started to look rough, and for taming the crown where wigs tend to frizz first.

Care and safe use
Only use it on completely dry hair — heat on wet hair causes real damage. Heat protectant every time. Clear hair and product build-up from between the teeth regularly, since residue transfers back onto clean hair. Keep it away from water.

Length and shrinkage guide
All our lengths are measured stretched. Textured hair sits shorter than its stated measurement once it is dry:
- Straight — almost no shrinkage. What you order is what you see.
- Body wave — an inch or two shorter.
- Deep wave and water wave — roughly a fifth to a quarter shorter.
- Curly and kinky curly — up to half. A 20 inch curly piece can sit at 10 inches once dry.
If you are between two lengths, take the longer one. Length disappointment is the commonest reason wigs get sent back, and sizing up costs nothing.
Wigs also arrive compressed from packaging and look thinner and shorter than expected. Shake it out and let it hang before judging it.
Choosing your cap
The cap decides how convincing the wig looks and how much skill it takes to put on. Neither end of this list is better — they suit different people.
- 4x4 closure — the simplest to install and the hardest to get wrong. One parting position. The sensible first wig.
- 4x6, 4x7 and 5x5 closure — a wider lace area, so you can move your parting without exposing the cap.
- 13x4 frontal — ear to ear coverage with real parting space. Middle part, deep side sweep, or moved between wears.
- 13x5 and 13x6 frontal — five or six inches of depth, so a deep middle part stays convincing all the way back.
- 360 frontal — lace around the whole perimeter. The only option if you want high ponytails and updos.
- V-part and half wigs — no lace at all. Your own hair is left out to blend, so the parting is genuinely your scalp.
Frontals give the most freedom and take the most practice. Closures are quicker, more forgiving, and often wearable glueless with straps and combs.
Care
A human hair wig has no scalp feeding it oil, so the ends dry out faster than your own hair would. Looking after it is the difference between a wig that lasts a season and one that lasts years.
- Detangle from the ends upward, never from the roots down. On textured hair, do it wet with conditioner in — dry brushing pulls the wave or curl pattern out permanently.
- Wash sparingly with a sulphate-free shampoo, in sections rather than piling it up.
- Condition through the mid-lengths and ends rather than the roots, and use a weekly mask.
- Air dry on a stand. Allow plenty of time at higher densities — a dense wig put away damp is how wigs develop a smell.
- Heat protectant every time, at moderate temperatures. Repeated high heat wears a wig out faster than anything else.
- Refresh between wears with water and a little conditioner in a spray bottle rather than rewashing.
- Handle lace gently at the hairline, and store on a stand so the shape holds.
On coloured hair: reds and blondes fade fastest. Wash in cool water, and use a purple toning shampoo every few washes on blonde and highlighted pieces.
