A single black cultured pearl on a fine white-gold-tone setting. Black is the pearl colour that reads as modern rather than inherited — it has the same lustre as a white pearl but none of the twinset associations, and it sits as well against a black jumper as it does against a bare collarbone.
Why it's a good buy
- A single large pearl is the most versatile piece in the category. A strand is an occasion. One pearl on a fine chain goes to work, to dinner and to a wedding without changing character.
- Size is what you're really choosing here. 9–10 mm is a classic everyday pendant. 10–11 mm has real presence. 11–12 mm is a statement — pearls get disproportionately rarer and more expensive as they grow, which is why the jump in price at the top size is steeper than the jump in millimetres.
- Black hides what white shows. Light-coloured pearls yellow over years of contact with skin oils and perfume. A dark pearl ages far more discreetly.
- Pearls flatter almost everyone. The lustre throws soft light upward onto the face — the reason they've never actually gone out of fashion, only in and out of styling.
What you're buying — plainly
This is a cultured pearl, and black cultured pearls in this size and price range are colour-treated rather than naturally black. It is not a natural Tahitian pearl.
On the metal: our supplier describes the setting as 18K white gold. We have not independently verified that, and we're not prepared to state a gold fineness we can't stand behind — so we're describing it as a white-gold-tone setting and pricing it as such. If solid 18K matters to you, ask us before ordering and we'll get it confirmed.

Stones, pearls and metals

Sizing
- Necklaces — 40 to 45cm sits at the base of the neck, 50cm at the collarbone, 60cm and longer below it.
- Bracelets — measure your wrist snugly and add 1.5 to 2cm for a comfortable fit.
- Rings — measure a ring you already wear on the same finger, or have your finger sized by a jeweller. Fingers are larger when warm and later in the day.
- Earrings — each listing gives the drop length and fitting type.
Care
- Last on, first off. Put jewellery on after perfume, hairspray and moisturiser, and take it off before swimming, bathing or exercise.
- Pearls are soft and porous. Wipe them with a soft, dry cloth after wearing, never use jewellery cleaner or ultrasonic cleaners on them, and store them flat rather than hanging.
- Gemstones vary in hardness. Store pieces separately so harder stones do not scratch softer ones or pearls.
- Plated metals last longer kept dry and away from chemicals.
- Store each piece in its pouch or box, away from direct sunlight.
Returns
Unworn jewellery in its original packaging can be returned within 14 days of delivery. For hygiene reasons, pierced earrings cannot be returned once the seal or backing has been removed. If an item arrives faulty, damaged or incorrect, contact us within 30 days and we will replace it or refund you in full. Full details are in our refund policy.
